LOOK AT THOSE CRUSTY BOYS

HIGH KEY/LOW KEY
For the diptych shown above, the first photo on the left of the diptych represents my high key photo. My high key photo represents how other see me. One of the main places where I feel as though the outside world sees me is at my job. I work at a retirement home and I work as a server in the formal dining room. I have to be polite, courteous, and helpful. Due to these requirements I feel as though I come across as mindless and emotionless because I am really forced to iron out any true personality of my own to keep things formal. I believe that people see me as nothing more than an object to take their order and get them their food and if anything goes wrong, it must be my fault.
This is why for the high key photo I can be seen wearing my work uniform. My arms are placed at my side and my face shows no emotion. My posture is balanced and tranquil. I believe that this photo is void of all emotion or any personality. My body language and clothes say nothing about how I actually act, think, or feel.
For the second photo used in the diptych, which is my low key photo, I show much more emotion. In contrast to the first photo in which all personality is gone, in this second photo much more about me can be seen because it is how I see myself. Personally, I see myself a lot differently then I think other people see me. Although I come across as quiet and introverted, I believe that I am much more outgoing. I enjoy laughing with friends, listening to music, and having adventures.
My second photo shows this contrast by the great difference in body language and clothing in comparison to the first photo. In this second photo I am laughing, pointing at a friend and having fun. I am wearing my favorite hoodie and I have my earbuds in. My body language shows that I am relaxed and happy and my clothes show my personality.
This project taught me a lot. I am not used to being in front of the camera for a change and it took a little bit of time to get used to. I was very uncomfortable at first, but after awhile I was warmed up and got more involved in my photo, showing more emotion. From this assignment I have learned how to work with things in front of the camera and how I can now instruct others in my photo to pose as I now have some experience for the first time. Even though I look like a muppet, I enjoyed this assignment.
